Damping devices

The output discharge from peristaltic pumps can have a tendency to pulsate this is caused by the action of the rollers on the tubing. Increasing the number of rollers in the pumphead, and increasing the rotational speed (by reducing the tube diameter) can reduce the pulsation. But this can still cause problems in some applications.

For the best results from continuous flow fit a pulse-damping device. This is fitted into the output discharge line, the damping device is basically a small reservoir with an inlet and outlet roughly in the centre, so approximately half the reservoir is filled with air. It is this air space that absorbs the pulses. Making the outlet lower than the inlet and slightly restricting the outlet from the damping device can improve the smoothness of flow further but can also raise the backpressure.

IPumps can supply a very simple damping device, if you’re not sure if it’s suitable for you; just ask for sale or return to give it a try.

Control Modules

There are 5 external control modules available allowing the pump to be controlled from an external source:

0 - 5V analog input

0 - 10V analog input

4 - 20mA analog input

0 - 10KHz Pulse Input

RS 485, USB via adapter *

*Please contact iPumps for the communication protocol

Insert the external control module into the external control socket on the rear of the pump (Figure 2.1).  The external light on the membrane keypad will illuminate (will not operate in RS485 mode) and make the relevant connections. For USB connection, use the RS485 to USB conversion cable.
